Professional Bag Making for Beginners – 2 Days

The Beginner Bag Making course is 16 hours over two days of fun (9.30am to about 5pm), sewing and learning how to make a professional-quality bag that is good enough to be a fantastic gift or even launch you into selling. The class will be a maximum of 6 students, so you can get as much help as you need.

The bag we’ll make seems quite basic at first glance, but we will add a lot of features and techniques that are also in much more complex designs, making this an excellent springboard to any bag you want to make.

You can choose your own colour scheme from our fabric stash and all the materials, interfacing, stabiliser, threads and bag hardware you need are supplied.

You will need to bring your own sewing machine, rotary cutter if you use one, fabric scissors and any favourite sewing tools, but everything else is provided.

Refreshments are provided and you might like to bring a packed lunch with you – we’ll have a break in the middle of the day.

• Cutting and interfacing the pattern pieces – what to use and not to use
• Using stabilisers – which is best and why
• How to create a zipped pocket the pro way
• How to create the pattern pieces for  and construct a recessed zipper closure for almost any bag you like
• Installing hardware
• Incorporating a built-in key fob
• Installing a rectangular base
• Creating exterior pockets
• Making adjustable straps
• Rivets and how to use them
• Sewing the bag together and topstitching
• A sneaky way of getting your bag right-sides-out without ugly lining seams!
